Getting a professional look to your landscape photographs then, is as much a challenge as it is a pleasure when the praise starts coming in: realistic, awesome or inspiring results can be achieved with the right lighting and angles but it does call for patience and some amount of dedicated practice to learn the use of basic equipment and techniques of outdoor photography.

The techniques of outdoor landscape photography differ vastly from indoor or studio photography techniques and so does the lighting and equipment needed to get good results. Once, the hobby photographer has learned the importance of using the right equipment in the correct manner, landscape photography is no longer a mystery to someone who applies the knowledge of art and a passion for capturing a landscape in a way that it speaks to the observer.

You too can learn to deliver artful messages to the viewer through your work, the way in which you present a shot or series of shots so that it moves your viewer to feel something for the work. Whatever message you want to portray should be clear to the viewer through the mood setting dominant in your landscape photograph and so the main details you need to pay special attention to are the kind of lighting you are focusing the camera angle in, existence of any shadows (sometimes even shadow-plays give great results for a dreamy, fantastic or even mystical mood setting, but this requires a lot of practice to achieve – and sometimes, just weather-luck) besides necessary equipment.

If you choose to use B/W film for landscape, this is a really demanding medium for the photography of nature since true artistry is difficult to attain through this as there is little reliance on colors beyond black and white and so the dependence of the picture looking eye-catching is mostly on any shadows the image creates. This is why composition is an important part of landscape photography: the picture should have certain sharp edges, tones and textures to alleviate the sense of lacking colors but still having character.

The foundation of B/W photography is getting the camera to capture what the eye actually views in color and also to highlight a definite portion and let shadows play on another section; varied angles of buildings and water have made for great black and white photography in the past and you can try your luck with this aspect too.

On the other hand, even trees and rocks, bridges and natural ridges, land formations and man-made buildings against a natural backdrop make for an interesting contrast say, like contradictions existing peacefully alongside and so draw the eye to this play of opposites.

A photographer can use various angles to give a sharp or even soft contrast to the effect one desires and evoke definite emotion in the viewer simply by allowing for a touch of color play, if taking to color photography in subtle tones. Natural lighting required for landscape photography makes for easier candid shots to be captured by color films and thus, many hobbyists prefer taking up Digital photography that allows them to evaluate the quality of the picture before committing it to print as the LCD screen shows them most important aspects of the picture’s focus, which goes a long way to ensure a perfect picture.

So, as an amateur photographer, you need to put in some amount of practice with your basic photography equipment and learn best angles, focus points, time of day and spots to pick out for getting consistent results each time – to breathe in life into your landscape photos!

Photography is tough business. You need to know the ropes of business and not just the artistic aspect of photography, if you are to make it on your own as a professional photographer. And then you need to be good enough at your skill to realize what lens is right for what particular conditions. Being a hobbyist photographer is a whole different thing, and being a professional is quite another. If you are really serious about taking this up as a means to earn your livelihood, why not consider going to photography school?

It is true that you can become a good photographer without a degree, as many have in the past. However a few classes are only going to help you along the way. If you are completely new to the subject you should at least get a basic course. You will find a variety of courses out there, and things like continuing education and distance education are great ways to learn the subject without giving it 100% of your time. More often than not, short courses are enough to get one hooked on to the craft and therefore take a few more complicated courses and workshops.

Distance Learning
If you have a job then distance learning can really be it for you. You could continue with your current schedule and never take a risk. If you learn enough and are confident with a few assignments under your belt, then you can leave the day job and concentrate full time on your shooting.

The various choices in photography
Photography is a general term used to describe a variety of professionals. You could be an underwater photographer, an aerial photographer or a fashion photographer just to name a few. As you can well imagine, the only similarity between the three classes mentioned above is the use of the camera. An underwater photographer would need additional training in diving, an aerial photographer would need to be trained in the safety of the skies and a fashion photographer needs to have an eye for fashion. You need to ask yourself what branch of photography you are best cut out for, and take your time to decide on this before you begin building a portfolio around the topic. This is where a training in the subject can really assist you to evaluate your self. When you are given assignments in school to shoot this or that, you quickly begin to understand what you are cut out for. If you are not a very social person, fashion and weddings is not for you, but you may be excellent at real estate photography.

The diversity you find in courses
When you take a course you are opened up to various kinds of photography. Assignments which you work with for your grades could range from fashion, to still life, to high speed photography. This exposure is crucial as you decide on your future job prospects.

It simply isn’t true that you will have to go to years of bachelor school to become a photographer. You could simply choose photography as an ancillary subject to whatever it is that you may already be studying. You may be wondering if you could learn the subject without attending the classes at all, and the answer to this one is YES. If you have the dedication to try out new ideas and the equipment to see them through you can definitely train your own self to be a photographer.

And then there is the option of distance education that most photographers love simply because it gives them the freedom to experiment on their own while still getting a recognized degree at the end of the day. The NY Institute of photography is a fine example of a college offering such an option.

You will need to get educated on elements of photography such as lighting, exposure, composition and lenses. Of course you can take this course even while you are working at a job, since it is a distance education thing. Any photography course should also include a good amount of practical shooting exposure. Generally about half the emphasis goes on the portfolio that you can make by the end of every assignment.

You don’t need chemicals any more!
Gone are the days when a photographer had to learn dark room techniques to develop and correct his or her own work. Today with digital photography all you need is a personal computer to edit your images. Keep in mind though that learning a software to edit your images is not as easy as it sounds. While it is a matter of minutes before you learn how to handle brightness, contrast and exposure level on a computer it is much more challenging to make major changes to a photograph, and that is something that will probably not be a part of your photography course. Adobe Photoshop is a favorite photo editing software among photographers.

Of course, getting into photography school full time could be the best option if you have the time. But there have been many successful photographers who never went to school at all. All that counts when you meet a client is the quality of your sample photo album, what photographers call their portfolio. Get this right and you have a chance. Luckily photography is not yet a field where employers have begun asking for degrees. Still, if you wish to get into something as complex and as challenging as medical photography, neither can you learn it on your own and nor can you hope to get a job without a qualification.

There are many ways to become a photographer, and getting a degree in photography is one of the ways. Don’t let the lack of college education ever stop you from chasing your dreams.

There are many options for aerial photographers when choosing an aircraft to work from. For many this will be dictated by what is available but if some wishes to purchase an aircraft solely for the purpose of Oblique Aerial Photography there are many factors, which should be taken into consideration.

Firstly and foremost the aircraft must be legal. Therefore, if revenue is generated from the flight that is greater than the cost of the flight the aircraft must hold a valid Public Transport Certificate of Airworthiness. This is because aerial photography is put in the class of ‘Aerial Work’ and thus must conform to the guidelines set out by the CAA.

Most high wing light aircraft can be used for oblique Aerial photography but there must be a compromise between efficiency and speed. While a Cessna 182 will have a relatively high cruise speed and will have less flight time between sites the fuel burn and therefore cost per hour will be much greater. In comparison a Cessna 152 will have a much slower cruise speed but will be much lighter and therefore will burn less fuel per hour. The initial outlay for a 152 would also be less and therefore less finance is needed to get the operation off the ground!

Although the Cessna range of aircraft has a proven track record there are other options for an Aerial Photography business. For instance an aircraft such as a piper cub may be used. However, there is generally less space for equipment in an aircraft of this type.

There are obviously occasions when a Cessna is not appropriate for Aerial Photography work, such as central London sites where a twin engine is required and often a Helicopter is preferred as it is much easier to stop and hover while waiting for clearances.

South African born Keith has lived in the south of England for most of his life. After graduating from University with a degree in Business Information Systems Management he decided to start Strawberrysoup; a website design company based in West Sussex and Dorset.

Keith successfully gained entry into the Southampton University Air Squadron and spent over 12 months training to fly. Since then he has continued to follow his interest in flying and has now began his own training in the form of a Private Pilot’s Licence.

Keith also spent 13 months working within the Image and Printing Group at Hewlett Packard in Bracknell. Throughout his time there, he was responsible for many activities including events organisation and website design and maintenance.

The online world has been able to provide us with the ability to find everything we could possibly want or need right at our desk. The same can be said for digital photography. Just like with any other product on the market there is a large area for which you can find anything that you could possibly want online. With just a few keystrokes, one can look anywhere and find the exact product that they want for digital photography and quite possibly at a good price.

Just about every large retailer has a web store and here is where you can go to find just what you want and have it shipped directly to your home. This is even true for digital photography equipment, here you can browse their selection and make decisions on the equipment that you choose to buy without ever leaving your home. You can even search for reviews of the products online to find out what people think of the camera you are about to buy and how they feel about the investment that they have made. This way you will have an idea of what the product offers and what it is that they can you will be receiving when you do order it.

By shopping online for the digital photography equipment, that you need and want you can save yourself time and money. That is because many of the items that you want are not only available online, but many of the retailers are able to offer online discounts or promotions to lure you in and to get you to buy more. Here you will be able to find many of the products you need and may even be able to buy everything at once and have it all come together in one package. Do some looking and see what kind of deals you can receive on your equipment and you may even be able to find some items online that are not actually available in the stores.

However, be careful with online retailers and make sure to only use websites that are secure when making a purchase so as to not allow other people to steal your information and your identity. The online marketplace is a wonderful tool to help find the perfect addition for your digital photography equipment as long as you use it right and know what you are looking for in order to find it.

With the way that everything has changed so dramatically in the world over the last ten years it is not surprising how much cameras and photography has changed to go with it. With all of the different advantages and simple gadgets that come with the ability to go and become an amateur photographer one would wonder why so many others are not photographers?

Considering all of the fun things that can be done on your own with some simple editing and some cheap software it is no wonder why so many people are not doing more with photography. This is not only as amateurs, but on a professional level as well. Many artists have embraced the digital medium to be able to combine multiple works or to perfect their craft of photography by being able to view immediately their work and to do a retake without the fear of running out of film with the use of a memory card. So many different changes it is a wonder that some people still rely on film at all. However, some still find beauty in doing things the old way and having the negatives to be able to make copies of their original prints.

There is the advantage of being able to take many more pictures without having to reload the camera and without having to hope they do not run out of film in the midst of a shoot. Using the camera to meet these needs and to feel the freedom of not having film and time constraints is incredible to many. Since you can print your own pictures at home immediately now and even share them with everyone with use of the internet there is no fear of it costing too much or that you will not be able to meet your own needs.

With everyone being in such a hurry for everything and living a world of instant gratification it is no wonder why there is such an interest in digital photography. Use of digital cameras now makes it so simple even children enjoy and can take quality pictures without wasting time and money. Even with the slightly higher cost for a digital camera over a traditional film camera, it will pay for itself rather quickly once you realize how much money you will save on film and developing costs. So consider it an investment in your future.

Digital photography is one of the best innovations in a long time. It allows for photography freedom as well as eliminating the fear of making a mistake. It also helps to create more time for the photographer who is in a time crunch. Since the person who is using the camera is experiencing so many different advantages and so many more freedoms, it is no surprise that there are more people wanting to take pictures.

With the ability to take and edit your own photos with a simple camera and a computer almost anyone can be an amateur photographer and feel good about the pictures that they are taking. With it so easy if you have the right type of printer to be able to even print up your own pictures it is no wonder so many memories are being preserved today, even if it not on film but in a digital memory card. It is becoming more cost effective and time conscious to use digital photography as well. Since you will not need to go and have the film developed and in some retailers you can even print up your own pictures while sitting in a kiosk why you would ever send film in for processing again.

Not only that, you will never have to deal with film or any of the issues that come with it again. Things such as overexposure or the film failing to advance will never happen again. You will also never need to look into running out of film or needing to change rolls in the middle of a shoot again. With many memory cards able to hold hundreds of pictures at one time it is easy to see why so many people have switched to digital. Not only is the use of digital cameras extremely beneficial to the amateur but to the professional as well. This is because they are able to more easily meet deadlines especially those in the media and to be able to provide current pictures for newspapers and magazines.

Use of digital photography also allows for easier editing and altering of the pictures to fit the needs of the photographers whether it is for their job or for pleasure. Use of digital photography makes life easier on all ends and for all types. Consider how you could use it to help you preserve your memories and life .

Many of us remember the days of cameras with film—you had to take it to the store and pay for it to be processed. If you are like most people you often forgot to get the film to the store and by the time you got around to it you had 20-30 rolls that needed developing. Instead of $10-15 you had to put out $40-50 or more depending on the number of exposures on the roll. Of course, that was if you had not left them so long that the film deteriorated and the exposures were ruined.

Of course, the biggest inconvenience was that you had the take the film out of the camera and to the store if you wanted the pictures immediately. Of course, you had mailers you could send, but those could take a week or more to come back, thus the next best solution was the one hour photo labs which were more expensive than standard processing. It was definitely an improvement over the original film processing which always had to go to the lab and could take a week for completion.

When digital photography first became popular most people took their memory cards to the store and had the pictures printed. One of the reasons for this was in the beginning of digital photography technology only special digital camera printers were designed to print photos were a digital camera. In the beginning they were also quite expensive—almost the same cost as that of a standard home computer printer. For many people it was more economical to pay for printing of digital photographs than invest in a special printer.

Today many printers are made with photo quality so that you can download the pictures from your digital camera directly to your computer and print them on high quality photo paper. Of course, if you take a great many pictures that you want printed, it may be cheaper to go to the store instead of using the ink in your printer. However it is very easy to see how digital photography has changed the way we capture and retain pictures. Newer cameras have memory cards you can buy to increase the number of pictures you can store and to allow you to either download them to your computer or pay for photograph processing. As we proceed into the 21st century, we can expect to see advanced digital photography.

There are many different accessories that one can sue when they are starting to get into digital photography. The first accessory to consider would have to be a tripod. A tripod can be a wonderful tool to allow you a lot of freedom and flexibility in your photography adventures. Consider all of the things you will be able to do when it comes to having that extra set of legs to help you to hold the camera as you decide what type of picture to take and to be the steadying hand that you will need to give you the best possible print.

A tripod can be especially helpful if you are going to be using it to take pictures of landscapes. By having the tripod you will better be able to survey your scene and better be able to focus on the picture you want to take. You do not want your picture to be off kilter because it was cold, you were shivering, and you do not want to have a bad picture when a small investment could have given you a much higher quality photograph. Use the tripod to make the picture taking easier as well, if you are taking group photos and want to be able to give direction and to allow for yourself to be in the picture as well.

The tripod will also come in handy if you are using your camera at an event where you are taking many different pictures of the same area to create something. The tripod will allow you to keep the camera in the same spot to record the same background with different scene changes occurring. This way you can record your child’s game from one perspective or to take pictures of what is occurring in a certain patch of woods over a specific period of time. Just consider the tripod to be a helping hand when you need and an almost essential part of any arsenal when it comes to photography.

Use the tripod as a tool to get you more consistent shots of the things you want. It is not something that you will need to use for every picture, but as you see necessary to improve your shots and to give you a better feel for your digital camera. Use it as a tool and not as a crutch to make your photography better.
